    MOV and MP4 files carry hidden metadata atoms with information you probably didn't mean to share: device make and model, software that edited the file, GPS coordinates, creation timestamps, and identifying user IDs.

    Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook read this metadata on upload and use it to auto-tag your videos, like "Made with CapCut." Removing it here defeats that path for direct Reel uploads, TikTok posts, YouTube, Twitter/X, and most other platforms. "Made with Ray-Ban Meta" on Instagram Stories is different: in our tests it survives a metadata scrub.

    CrunchBox parses the QuickTime container structure of your video using mp4box.js in your browser and rewrites it without the identifying atoms. Specifically, it removes udta (user data), meta, and XMP atoms: the bits that carry CapCut Creator IDs, Ray-Ban Meta Platform tags, Apple device fingerprints, and export IDs.

    The video track itself (codec, frames, audio, duration) is bit-for-bit identical to your original. Lossless: same codec, same quality, same file shape. Just no fingerprints. One limit: GoPro and DJI cameras also record GPS as a separate track, and the strip keeps it.
