JPG and PNG images can be shrunk to smaller files by re-encoding at a lower quality setting. For JPG, this discards some visual detail in exchange for a much smaller file. For PNG, we re-encode to JPG, which compresses photos far better than PNG's lossless format.

Most photos compress to 30–50% of their original size with no visible difference. Graphics and screenshots with sharp edges may show artifacts at low quality.

CrunchBox draws each image into a canvas element in your browser, then re-exports it as JPG at the quality level you pick with the slider. Original dimensions are preserved exactly; only quality changes.

Tips: 80% quality is a good default. Barely visible difference, significant size savings. Photos compress better than graphics or screenshots.
