    What you get
    _ □ x

Every picture a page of the PDF shows, as a separate file:

    • JPGs come out as stored. A photo saved in a PDF as a JPG is handed back as the same bytes. Nothing is re-saved, so nothing is lost
    • Other pictures come out as PNG, pixel for pixel, with their transparency
    • JPEG 2000 pictures come out as stored, as .jp2 files. Not every app opens that format

A picture used on many pages, like a logo, comes out once. Each file is named for the page it first appears on: report-p3-1.jpg is the first picture on page 3.

    How it works
    _ □ x
    1. Drop your PDF into the box above. The pictures in it are found right away
    2. Each one is shown with its size and format
    3. Download the ones you want, or all of them in one ZIP

Icons, bullets, and lines are pictures too, as far as a PDF is concerned. They are left out to start with, and one click shows them.

    What it cannot get out
    _ □ x

Some pictures are left out, and the page says how many and why:

    • Fax-style black and white scans. Many office scanners save pages this way. Exporting them takes a decoder this tool does not have yet
    • Print-only color (CMYK and spot colors) that is not a JPG. Turning it into screen color would change how it looks

A scanned PDF is one picture per page, so this tool gives you each page as a picture. Text you can select is not a picture and is not exported: this is not a way to turn a page of text into an image.

Password-protected PDFs are refused: remove the protection first.

    When it helps
    _ □ x
    • Getting the original photos back out of a report or a brochure
    • Pulling a chart or diagram out of a paper to put in a slide
    • Turning a scanned document back into one image per page
    • Saving a logo from a PDF when nobody can find the original file
    • Collecting the product photos from a catalog

Your PDF never leaves your device. Reading the file and writing out its pictures both happen in your browser. CrunchBox has no server that could see what is in your documents.

This is why we run entirely in-browser: if we can't touch your files, we can't lose them, leak them, or profile them.
